Thrift Share Monday - March 25

Alright this post is going to be short and sweet.  Otherwise it won't get posted.

I managed to make it to two small estate/moving sales this weekend, which translates to stuff for sale that they don't want to pack up.  Usually these types of sales don't offer much, however I did manage to squeeze some nice finds out of these two sales.

Like this so wonderful, small Fire King Jadite mixing bowl.

I have the milk glass nesting bowl set to this pattern.

Next up some lovely Pyrex, an Empire Scroll divided casserole, and a small Horizon Blue mixing bowl.

Then there is this lone, oh-so-retro, glass.  It has a small c in a circle on it's base.  I'm not familiar with that marking.  Anyone know who the maker is?

Got a cake keeper.

And last but not least my mom made it out to a few estate sales on her own, and didn't score much of anything, but she did get me a whole bunch of rick-rack, bias tape, and lace seam binding for $1.50.  Score!!!

Alright, that's all for today.  How was your thrifting last week?

Thrift Share Monday - March 18

Well, to avoid messing up a streak of Thrift Share Mondays, since I did no thrifting this week, I'm going to post on some previous finds I haven't posted about yet.

This share will be a bit different because this one will be about a few books I've acquired. I tend to steer away from books because I bought a whole bunch at the beginning of my thrifting ventures, with the thoughts of being able to resell them, but they were flops. However, I've put some use to them by using them as display/height props at my craft shows.
Alright, first up is the fantastic classic 1968 Bambi book.
I first got this book in January. The art work is so fantastically, gorgeous and soft. So vintage-y.

My first thought when i saw this book was that these pages would look amazing framed. Then I froze, because I felt bad thinking about removing the pages, even though the hard cover isn't in the greatest condition. This issue has been fixed, I think, because I found the same book last month, and the cover is really warped. So I shouldn't feel bad about framing those pages.

You know what the best part of this Bambi book is?  It ends just as Spring starts.  So you never know what happened to his mom out in the open.

Next up is this 1908 Sears catalog.  Which is so sad to look through.

Sad? Yes.  Why? Well, because I want to buy this for today's $3,000. A nine room house.

I wouldn't mind a "talking machine" either for $15.90.

Well if these items don't do it for you then are you more of a vanity type?  Need your skin whitened?  Well then, this lovely bottle of White Lily Face Wash is recommended for you, AND it DOESN'T contain arsenic.  So gift giving this to your "favorite" mother-in-law would do you no good.

Getting tired of your curvaceous womenly figure, well we got you covered because now you can literally have the shape of an hourglass.
For as little as  47 cents you can rearrange all your internal organs.
Oh, don't worry guys, there is something sexy for you too.
So hot...right?  No really...I mean it must be sooo hot wearing fleece lined bodysuit underwear.

Last but not least you have this.

0_0  Um....I'm a bit at a lost for words here.  All I got is now I know where the idea of the Flying Nun came from.  Nothing like a dead bird on top of your head that would make you wonder how it would be to fly by your head.

Now I haven't had the chance to go through much of this next book from 1958.  From my memory I vaguely remember this shows remake with Bill Cosby, "Kids say the darndest things".

The thing that drew me to this book was the old Peanuts drawings, because we all know this isn't the Snoopy we now know and love.

Alright, that's all for today.  I hope you enjoyed this unorthodox Thrift Share post.

Thrift Share Monday - March 11

I'm on a roll.  Three Thrift Share's in a row!  What a feat....right?

I know I'm bad with keeping to a schedule with everything in my life when it comes to blogging, but I do always have intentions/wants to write more.  The catch 22 with this is that I have to do more to be able to write more, but then if I'm doing more things then I won't have time to write....that is of course if I was doing things (which I'm not).

This weekend it didn't look like there was much happening with official estate sales due to Spring Break starting, so I searched my Garage Sale Rover app to see if anything different popped up.  Sometimes the official estate sales show up on here, once in awhile I find a good stop, and I love it when it's a family run estate sale.  Just my luck there was one and it was close by.

My favorite find, as you may have seen on Facebook Friday, is this vintage Bel Air sewing machine.

I was rummaging through the garage for the second time, and as I was going around a table in the back I practically tripped over it.  As I looked down I looked at it in shock, then looked around wondering if anyone else has seen it (as in I wanted to hide it, like if someone else was gonna pounce on it....paranoid).  I bend down to pick it up...like if it was my regular machine, then think it's bolted to the concrete since it was so heavy.  It's really heavy.  I took it to the "cashier" and ask how much.  He looks at me kinda confused and asked me "do you want it?"  "Um yeah...I don't know if it works, but it's cute." Still with the confused look on his face he gives me a price.  "ONE DOLLAR".  I say "ok" then proceed to ask for a price for this matching Swingline staple gun, which also ends up being $1.

Huh?  What?  How can you look at these two items and price them both at $1.  Now I was confused, but of course very happy with the prices.

Another awesome find was this vintage Industrial Dazor floating arm lamp.

It is really awesome. At approx. 48" long, this could be really helpful in my dark windowless loft.  I could swing it over my cutting table while cutting fabric, or swing it over my dresser for possible Etsy photo shoots.  Now it's just a matter of rigging it to sit on top of metal railing (there is no wall on this side of my room).

I've occasionally seen these valets (to hold a jacket, pants, with a little tray to hold a wallet and keys), but they are usually more that what I'd want to pay for them, but the price was right this time.

Then there is this cute ottoman.  These always remind me of my grandparents house from forever ago.

At another estate sale on Saturday, that promised a lot, was a dud, or all the good stuff was taken by the time I made it to the sale after work.  I walked out with some fabric and this little alarm clock.

I love the blue numbers.

And...that's all I got this week.  I'm not expecting much thrifting this week since it's Spring break, but I'll play it by ear.  Have you had any good finds lately?

Thrift Share Monday - March 4

Yay!  Two consecutive Thrift Share Mondays, how crazy is that?

There was a moment early in this last 6 weeks that I started to mourn estate sales, telling myself I had to face the fact that since I was working every Friday and Saturday morning that estate sales were going to be dead to me.  However, my schedule seems to be a bit different every week, and this Saturday I actually had it off.  Awesome!!!

I haven't disappointed myself with my brief outings, my mom has even helped out by attending some estate sales I haven't been able to get to.  She did that once earlier in February, and then this weekend grabbing a few items each time.  It was funny the first time I gave her the list of estate sales she could go to, she said "well what do you want me to buy?"  I told her "well...you've been going to estate sales with me for over a year now.  Consider that your training.  You know what I like." Not to mention there are quite a few times where she's been the enabler, steering me in the direction of buying something.  So there shouldn't be the need of a list of what she should buy.

Alright.  I have to start off with a "I'll wait and see if it's still around on half price day" purchase.  I went back to this estate sale on Sunday purely for sewing machines, there were three a this sale, and this 1959 pink Atlas sewing machine was at the top of my list.

I come across sewing machines "often" at estate sales.  Usually the much older, early 1900 treadle ones, that are super expensive, that I can just admire.  Then there are the not-cute-at-all-machines, that barely even get a glance.  Finally, there are ones that you only see online, the awesome retro ones.  There were three at this sale, a green (mint-ish) one, blue, and pink.  When I went back to this sale on Sunday I wasn't sure if any of these would still be there, but I somewhat had in mind that I would buy all three if they were.  I got there early and bee-lined to the room where the pink one was and I put my sold sign on it, quickly realizing the blue one was gone and went to go see the green one.  It was still there, and ok (on the cute scale), but the table it was attached to was really big/bulky and not appealing.  So I decided to leave it behind and head out with my lone pink machine, happy.

You know I have no idea if it even actually works yet, it does turn on, but for $32 that wasn't even a concern, it could be a super cute decor piece in my, far in the future, craft room.  Right?  And if it works that will be a double bonus.

So same sale, a day earlier, I got a giant zip-lock bag of super fab retro Mar-Crest stainless steel utensils.

I loved the Star Burst pattern on them.  There were a bit pricey, $36 (yes I know a cheap set of 20 can run $30, but you have to remember this is an estate sale and I don't like spending more than $15 on an item/set), but that expense later faded when I got home and had my daughter count how many pieces were in the bag, 123.  Yeah,  I bought them not knowing how many were in the bag.

This sale had a whole bunch of cookware and stainless steel, so I grabbed some small stainless steel items (some Danish), aside from the above utensils.

It's weird how I tend, on the rare occasion, to get drawn to the so-not-me items, like this sterling silver and turquoise ring.

It's not your typical round, gawky, over sized stone, and then it fit me perfectly.....so how could I leave it behind?

At another estate sale I got this white and red enamel pot.

Then here is what my mom got on her outing.

An awesome desk lamp.

A little Fire King custard dish, a brand new vintage sheet and....

These super awesome blue melamine cups.

She was sad to admit that she broke the 4th one, but believe me I've been there, done that.  Besides it's repairable enough that I could still use it to hold something in my craft room. So score either way.  Yay!

Thanks mom for tag teaming estate sales with me.  :-)
